The castle is located in the most characteristic part of the city, on the Castle Hill, near the Sztum Lake. A two-tower building, erected in the Gothic style by the Teutonic Order in the years 1326-1335, on a polygonal plan in the place of the Old Prussian stronghold. Former seat of the Teutonic head. From 1410, it came into the hands of Poles. After the Thirteen Years' War in the years 1468-1772, it served as the seat of Polish starosts. Destroyed during the Swedish wars in the 17th century, it was partially destroyed by Prussian authorities. To this day, two wings rebuilt in the nineteenth century, one tower and gates and perimeter walls have survived. The former headquarters of the Sztum Culture Center, which to this day organizes periodic exhibitions inside.
