Address: ul. Gdańska 66-68 , Bydgoszcz
A complex of connected buildings located at ul. Grańska 66-68 in Bydgoszcz. Tenements were erected in the years 1904-1905 for a famous restaurateur. These properties were built on the site of earlier buildings, used for entertainment and leisure purposes. In the mid-nineteenth century, the place of today's tenement houses was the summer garden and bowling alley of the property of court enforcer Karl Hildebrandt, and in the 1880s a restaurant was established. In 1882, a wooden building of the "Wiktoria" summer theater was erected on the garden's property, according to the design of Józef Święcicki and Anton Hoffmann. Theater performances and concerts were held here. In 1893, the property was bought by Eduard Schulz. There he created a restaurant called "Restaurant zum Reichskanzler". In 1922, the "Deutsches Haus" Hotel Society became the owner of the buildings, which additionally ran the German theater "Deutsche Bühne" and a hotel. In the period after World War II, the restaurant "Słowianka" operated here. In 1947-1949, the theater was transformed into the current Polish Theater. The tenement house has facades decorated with Art Nouveau decorations, one of which was damaged as a result of reconstruction and renovation. To this day, only relics of these stucco remain. The staircase with doors, balustrades and decorations has also been preserved in its original condition.
